GCSE Results Day 2020: Sacred Heart Catholic Secondary, Redcar

20th August 2020Joseph Bowen

“We are very proud of our pupils,” said Sacred Heart headteacher Dr Patrick Caldwell. “These results speak of their motivation and the work ethic and ambition they have demonstrated right up until their final day at school.

“It’s fantastic to see all our pupils secure places in the colleges and apprenticeships they applied to, and we know they will go on to achieve great success.

“Many pupils achieved excellent grades commensurate not only with their ability but also reflecting their hard work over their whole time at Sacred Heart.

“We are equally proud of those pupils who, despite sometimes struggling with their studies, performed very well and secured their preferred destination.

“All our school’s successes are only possible with a dedicated team of teachers who have worked hard to help our pupils realise their potential and my thanks go to them as well.”

Former St Paulinus Primary School pupil Jessica McCluskey achieved the highest progress of all of Sacred Heart’s year 11 students.

This is testament to five years of hard work, dedication and commitment to her studies. Jessica was determined to surpass her targets and excel and achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, four grade 7s and two grade 6s.

“I’m really grateful for my time at Sacred Heart,” said Jessica. “I worked hard and also appreciate the time and effort the teachers put in. I wanted to take my exams to prove my hard work paid off, but I’m pleased with the results I got.”

Laura Gray has shown dedication and leadership throughout her time at Sacred Heart and has been rewarded with five grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Diocese Offers Information For Families Needing Help: July 15

15th July 2020Michael McGeary

The Diocese of Middlesbrough has compiled a list of resources available to families who may be suffering hardship during the summer holidays.

The details have been put together by Middlesbrough Caritas, an umbrella grouping of people involved in social outreach within our diocesan family.

“These are challenging and unique times for us all, not least for our families and diocesan schools,” said Canon John Lumley, Episcopal Vicar for Missionary Discipleship.

“Given the threat of steadily increasing rates of unemployment and poverty in the country, especially perhaps as the government reduces the furlough scheme in the weeks ahead, it is likely that many families will experience loss of income and poverty – some of them for the very first time.

“With this in mind, we have prepared this list of organisations to which the parents of our school children might turn if they are in need. It is by no means exhaustive, but it is a start and may be of use to some families over the summer months. You may be able to share this information with families and friends, should they fall into difficulty.”

The link below contains details about help available within the NPCAT area.

Project 35:35 Winners Revealed: July 10

10th July 2020Michael McGeary

During lockdown, NPCAT’s Project 35:35 competition asked the question “Is God working?” and invited members of our community to send in their responses through art, music, dance or words.

We had some fantastic entries and the judges had to make some tough decisions to decide who the winners would be.

CLICK HERE TO SEE SOME OF THE ENTRIES IN OUR ONLINE GALLERY

The competition was inspired by the words of chapter 35 verse 35 in the Book of Exodus, which tells how God delivered the Israelites from slavery.

The people were called upon to use their gifts to adorn the tabernacle that was built as a pace of worship before they reached the Promised Land.

He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers – Exodus 35:35

✨ Feast of Saints Peter and Paul ✨

Today, we celebrate two pillars of our faith: Saint Peter, the rock on which Christ built His Church, and Saint Paul, the tireless missionary who spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Their courage, faith and unwavering love for Christ remind us that no matter our weaknesses, God can use us for His glory. 🙏

Let us pray for the grace to stand firm in our faith and share the love of Christ with everyone we meet. 💛

✨ Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist ✨

Today we celebrate the birth of the one who prepared the way for our Saviour, Jesus Christ. John the Baptist reminds us to live lives of repentance, courage and faithful witness to God’s love.

“Behold, one more powerful than I is coming…” (Luke 3:16)

As we honour his nativity, let us ask for the grace to hear God’s voice in our lives, to point others to Christ and to boldly proclaim the Good News in our words and actions.

💛 Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
