Masses welcome new Year 7s from across NPCAT secondary schools to their school families – October 2022

13th October 2022Joseph Bowen

Our new Year 7s celebrated their first school Masses as part of their welcome to their new secondary schools.

Trinity Catholic College Year 7 pupils at St Thomas More Church

Over two days pupils from Trinity Catholic College Pupils joined the parish community of St Thomas More and Father Dominique Minskip for the first Mass.

St Hilda, Blessed Nicholas Postgate and St John Fisher B houses celebrated mass first with the other half of the year group – members of St Bede, St Margaret Clitherow and St John Fisher A houses – attending a second Mass a few days later.

The theme was “Giving thanks for creation”, which is the topic pupils have been studying in RE.

Father Pat O’Neil was the celebrant at the joy-filled Year 7 Welcome Mass held at St Patrick’s Catholic College, which had the theme “I am a Child of God”.

It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to come together and share their hopes for the future with parents, carers and loved ones.

Pupils from each form class helped write the reflections, which looked at how they should incorporate Gospel Values into their everyday lives in order to be the best version of themselves.

Year 7s from St Peter’s Catholic College walked together to St Andrew’s Church, where Father Michael Sellers celebrated a beautiful Year 7 welcome Mass.

The service was an opportunity to pray for the new pupils, who have made a  fantastic start, and to ask God to bless all of their young people.

At the end of Mass the entire year group joined together to sing St Peter’s school song.

Isaac Newham

He has successfully secured a higher level apprenticeship with a local engineering firm and will become part of a growing young cohort from the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust (NPCAT) that makes a significant contribution to the exciting regeneration plans for the Tees Valley.

Not only has Isaac achieved excellent results in the classroom, he is also a talented footballer and plays for local club Billingham Town.

Isaac said, “I was nervous at first when receiving my results but when I opened them I was over the moon. Thanks to all my teachers for supporting me over the last seven years”.

Hannah Whittle, who also attended St Edward’s Catholic Primary School in Middlesbrough, is progressing to the University of Northumbria to read Geography after successfully achieving three As and a B in Geography, Sociology, Religious Studies and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Hannah Whittle

During her seven years at Trinity Catholic College she formed part of the student leadership team as an Environmental Officer.

Hannah is keen to be part of global environmental change and has ambitions in the future to lead in this area.  She also supports her local gymnastics club coaching young, aspiring gymnasts.

“I am delighted with my results and want to thank the leadership team at the Sixth Form for all their help and guidance. I cannot wait to start uni!,” said Hannah.

Governors Celebration Evening gives thanks to NPCAT’s volunteer army – July 2022

18th July 2022Joseph Bowen

July saw the trust’s first ever Governance Awards and Celebration Evening, an opportunity to thank all our wonderful governors and recognise those who have gone above and beyond to help their schools.2022 Governors Celebration Evening

The special event – held at Trinity Catholic College in Middlesbrough – enabled governors from all 27 of our schools to come together and get to know each other.

It began with a prayer and introduction from Bishop Terry, whose vision for Catholic education our governors work so hard to make a reality, followed by speech from chair of the board of directors, Joe Hughes.

The audience saw and heard about some of the outstanding work going on across all our schools as this year’s winners were revealed.

The formalities ended with a special video in which children from all our schools thanked governors in their own way before a reception and opportunity to mingle in Trinity’s superb new dining hall.

If you are interested in being one of our ‘volunteer army’, you might like to consider becoming a foundation governor. For further information, please speak to your parish priest or email [email protected].

✨ Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary ✨

“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.” – Luke 1:45

Today, we celebrate Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, a moment of joy, faith and charity. In her humility, Mary brought Christ to others even before He was born. Her yes to God reminds us to share His love with those around us.

Let us follow Mary’s example by carrying Christ to our neighbours, offering encouragement and rejoicing in God’s blessings together. 💛

🌟 Happy Trinity Sunday! 🌟

Today, we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three Persons in one God, a mystery of love beyond our full understanding. 💖

Let us reflect on the eternal love that flows within the Trinity and extends to each of us. May we live in that love, share it with others and always remember that God is with us: guiding, redeeming and inspiring. ✝️

🙏 “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

🌿 Feast of St Augustine of Canterbury 🌿

Today, we celebrate St Augustine of Canterbury, the “Apostle to the English,” who brought the light of Christ to the people of England in the 6th century. 🙏

Sent by Pope Gregory the Great, St Augustine’s courage, faith and humility remind us that even in new and unfamiliar places, the love of God can transform hearts. 💛

Let us ask for his intercession to guide missionaries, strengthen our own witness to Christ and bring unity and peace to all communities. ✝️

"Behold, I am sending you… to bring the light of Christ to others." – Inspired by St Augustine’s mission

✨LOURDES PILGRIMAGE ✨

✈️🙏 Representatives from right across the #NPCATFamily are making the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes this week to embark on a truly special spiritual journey. 💙

Every year, millions of pilgrims flock to this holy site seeking solace, healing and hope. Together, staff and pupils will be on hand to help those in need, join in prayer and make memories to last a life time. This week, we join thousands of young people from around the world in prayer, service and friendship at this very special place where Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette. 🌹✨

Together, we’ll walk in faith, deepen our love for Christ and open our hearts to the message of Lourdes: “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). 💒✝️💜

Please keep us in your prayers as we carry with us the intentions of our families, friends and school community. 🕊️💛

📖✨ Feast of St Bede the Venerable ✨📖

Today, we celebrate St Bede, the “Father of English History,” whose life reminds us of the power of faith, study and prayer. A monk, scholar and teacher, St Bede devoted his life to understanding God’s truth and sharing it with the world.

🙏 Reflection:
St Bede teaches us that faith and intellect can go hand in hand. Through reading, writing and prayer, he showed that knowledge is a gift when used to glorify God and serve others.

📚💡 Let us pray today for wisdom, clarity and a heart open to God’s word, so that like St Bede, we may bring light to those around us.

“Better one little book with God’s grace than many without it.” – St Bede
