Louise Dwyer, headteacher of Sacred Heart Catholic Secondary School, Redcar, was delighted with results that were yet again above the national average.

She said:

“At Sacred Heart, our mission is to make sure our young people fulfil their potential and find their future.

“The Class of 2026 have truly fulfilled our mission by demonstrating hard work, grit and determination. As a result, they have secured some excellent GCSE results and secured their post-16 destinations.

“We are delighted that our school has maintained exam results that are above national averages. This illustrates the continuous drive for excellence in our ethos, culture and outcomes.

“We are particularly pleased that some of the most challenging academic subjects, such as English, Maths and French, continue to secure excellent outcomes, especially when compared with the national picture.

“Similarly, our extensive suite of vocational subjects has once again seen outstanding outcomes, particularly in Engineering, Construction, Hospitality and Catering and Health and Social Care.

“Overall, the Class of 2026 have secured results that guarantee their post-16 destinations of choice. From the governors, teachers, support staff and I, we wish to extend a heartfelt well done to every one of our pupils as they begin their post-16 journey.

MEDICINE THE AIM FOR HEAD GIRL PHOEBE

Head girl Phoebe Smith achieved outstanding results, including eight grade 9s, in Maths, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History and RE and grade 8s in Further Maths, French and Art.

Phoebe attended St Paulinus Catholic Primary School in Guisborough before joining Sacred Heart and will now go on to study A-Levels in Biology, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry, with the aim of studying medicine at university.

Phoebe was Head Girl at Sacred Heart in her final year and worked incredibly hard to support the school on the student council and in public events. She recently returned from our summer school trip to Kenya.

Phoebe has worked hard throughout her time at Sacred Heart, always giving her best, and she was delighted with her results, saying they were even better than she had hoped for.

LILY DANCES HER WAY TO TOP MARKS

Lily Roth, a former pupil of St Bede’s Catholic Primary School in Marske, achieved results including a grade 9 in Geography and Level 2 Distinction* in Health and Social Care.

She also earned six grade 8s, in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, French, RE and English Language, and two grade 7s.

Lily, who has enjoyed ballet at her local dance school in Guisborough since she was three, will go on to take A-Levels in Politics, English Literature, Sociology and Criminology and would like to study Law at university.

She said: “I can’t believe I got a 9 in Geography and an 8 in Maths. I am so pleased!”

HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR GEORGIA

Future filmmaker Georgia Green achieved grade 9s in Biology and RE and a Level 2 Distinction* in Creative iMedia, as well as three grade 8s and 4 grade 7s.

A former pupil of St Benedict’s Catholic Primary School in Redcar, Georgia will go on to study A-Levels in Film Studies, Media Studies and Business.

Georgia’s ambition is to work in the film industry and has already been studying film studies at the Northern School of Art in her own time, making some excellent connections with Warner Brothers Studios.

Georgia said that she was particularly proud of her Biology result, as she finds sciences more difficult than the other subjects.

She said all her hard work had really paid off and she was really pleased with the effort she had put in.

ELEANOR LOOKS TO A CAREER IN LAW

Eleanor Maidens, a former St Bede’s Catholic Primary School, Marske, pupil, achieved grade 9s in History and Art as well as grade 8s in Maths, English Literature and English Language.

Eleanor is going on to take A-Levels in English, History and Psychology and would like to study Law at university.

During her time at Sacred Heart, Eleanor took part in the Lourdes pilgrimage, assisting the pilgrims in wheelchairs, and also went on our school trip to Kenya during the summer holidays.

Eleanor expressed her gratitude for the teachers who had helped her during her time at Sacred Heart and the care and compassion she received, saying: “I want to thank everyone for all the support they have given me.”
