The Cardinal and Bishops of England and Wales have used to pray at 6pm each day. Here you will find a prayer that you can use at this time. Also in the resources section at the end of the page you will find the “Family prayer sheet” for families to use while they can’t go to Mass at this time. This will be updated weekly while public Mass cannot be celebrated.

Monday 30th November

Loving God, we give you thanks for the blessings of this holy Advent season. You are the source of life , of hope, and of all good things. We look forward to the coming of the light of Christ at Christmas. Help us to turn toward that light in our lives. We rejoice at the gift of your Son who taught us to love in your name. May we be people of peace and justice all the days of our lives. Your kingdom come and your will be done now and forever. Amen

Sunday 29th November

Lord of hope,
we always look forward in expectation to our Christmas celebrations
and the first glimmering of Advent makes us smile.
But what our hearts really yearn for
is to know how to bring your love to the dark places;
this Advent help us to stand with those whose expectations have been crushed.

As the nights draw in, we know that your light is shining.
Help us to be that light:
help us to bring warmth,
help us to share love,
help us to touch lives
as ours have been touched.

Amen.

Saturday 28th November

If the Earth were only a few feet in diameter floating a few feet above a field somewhere, people would come from everywhere to marvel at it. People would walk around it marvelling at its big pools of water, its little pools, and the water flowing between the pools. People would marvel at the bumps on it, and the holes in it, and they would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas. The people would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the ball and at the creatures in the water. The people would declare it sacred because it was the only one, and they would protect it so that it would not be hurt. The ball would be the greatest wonder known, and people would come to pray to it, to be healed, to gain knowledge, to know beauty, and to wonder how it could be. People would love it and defend it with their lives because they would somehow know that their lives, their own roundness, could be nothing without it. If the Earth were only a few feet in diameter…

I believe in the sun even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when I do not feel it. I believe in God even when he is silent. Amen

Wednesday 25th November

Lord Jesus, we ask you to bring your healing touch to those whom we know to be sick, afraid or worried. To those who have lost loved ones and those who are victims of hatred. Bring them to your healing and peace. Amen.

Tuesday 24th November

Our prayer today was written by one of our Year 6 pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary school in Loftus.
My Lord Almighty Father,
We pray for those whom have been affected by the pandemic and hope you take care of them in heaven. Amen.
